HA 518 PU Interdependency Integration & Competition in Healthcare Sectors Essay

Description

Unit 4: Application Assignment
The Interdependency, Integration, and Competition among Healthcare Sectors
Introduction

Carefully read the Western Healthcare Systems: A Healthcare Delivery Continuum, Case # 11 located on page 157 in Darr, Farnsworth, & Myrtle’s Case book. This case study describes the evolution of a single hospital into a multiprovider system through planned, episodic entrepreneurial actions. The case describes how planned behavior and forward thinking played an important role in positioning the organization to respond to changes unfolding as the result of the changing public policy environment. Central to its strategy was to move from a hospital-based system to a more comprehensive healthcare system by developing a robust primary care network. Western Healthcare Systems was creating an integrated delivery system when an opportunity to acquire a large multispecialty group arose, but it may be imprudent to proceed because of hospital and multispecialty group physician resistance.
